The Matterhorn, or Monte Cervino, is one of the world’s most iconic mountains, famed for its perfect pyramid shape. This 6-day trek circles the legendary peak, exploring Breuil Cervinia in Italy and Zermatt in Switzerland, two capitals of mountaineering.
With lightweight hiking, cross glaciers and historic passes like the Theodul Pass, linking the Swiss Valais and Italy’s Aosta Valley. Each day unveils stunning landscapes, with the option to climb the Breithorn (4164 m) for an unforgettable 4000-meter Alpine view.
After a scenic cable car ride, you will discover the charming village of Jungu, offering an exceptional vantage point over the 4000-meter peaks of Saas Fee. You will then cross the Augstbord Pass (2894 m), with breathtaking views, before descending to the peaceful village of Grüben, nestled at the foot of the majestic Bishorn.
The day begins with an ascent through the alpine chalets of Chalteberg, before crossing the Forclettaz Pass (2874 m) or the Meidpass (2799 m), depending on conditions. You’ll enjoy views of the Val d'Anniviers peaks before descending into the stunning Zinal Valley, surrounded by summits towering over 4000 meters.
Your hike takes you into the heart of the Val de Moiry, with a climb to the Tsaté Pass (2868 m). This passage reveals the "crown of 4000-meter peaks" of the Val d'Anniviers, offering an unparalleled view of the region's highest summits. A descent takes you to Les Haudères, before reaching the picturesque village of Arolla.
From Arolla, you embark on a beautiful ascent toward the Collon Pass (3074 m), marking the border between Switzerland and Italy. Crossing the pass, you enter a spectacular high-mountain environment at the doorstep of glaciers, finishing the day at Refuge de Prarayer in the Valpelline Valley.
The day begins with the ascent of the Valcournera Pass (3066 m), aided by metal ladders, followed by a path alongside the Tsignanaz stream. This route offers impressive views of glaciers and peaks before reaching a natural window that provides your first direct view of the majestic Matterhorn. The day ends in Breuil Cervinia, where you will spend the night at the foot of this iconic limestone pyramid.
The final stage of the trek begins with a cable car ride to the Theodul Pass (3295 m). With the Matterhorn by your side, you will follow the Swiss-Italian border, traversing glaciers to reach Zermatt—one of the world's top mountaineering destinations. For the more adventurous, the optional ascent of the Breithorn (4164 m), a symbolic and accessible peak, is available.
