The Haute Route connects Chamonix and Zermatt, two iconic mountaineering capitals, on a trek through the heart of the Alps. Experience snow-capped peaks, vibrant alpine meadows, and valleys carved by glaciers, offering breathtaking views at every turn.
This route is perfect for passionate hikers seeking an authentic alpine adventure. Traverse wild trails, immerse yourself in majestic landscapes, and walk in the shadow of the highest peaks of the French and Swiss Alps.
Starting from the village of Montroc, we leave France behind and begin a beautiful ascent to Col de Balme. Along the way, the majestic scenery unfolds: Mont Blanc, Aiguille Verte, the Drus, and the Aiguilles of Chamonix. After savoring these spectacular views, we descend through the forest to the charming Swiss village of Trient.
Today features the ascent to the Fenêtre d'Arpette (2665 m), one of the most stunning alpine routes on the Tour du Mont Blanc. The view from this pass over the Trient Glacier is truly exceptional and a highlight of the trek. We then descend towards the picturesque village of Champex, nestled in the valley.
A short minibus transfer takes us to Bourg-Saint-Pierre in the heart of Val d'Entremont, on the legendary Grand Saint Bernard route. From here, we follow a panoramic balcony trail offering magnificent views of the Mont Blanc massif and the Dents du Midi, before reaching Cabane de Mille, an alpine refuge in an enchanting setting.
We start the day traversing the stunning ridges of the Valais, offering breathtaking 360° views. This stage is a feast for the eyes, with uninterrupted vistas of the inner Alps. After a morning of pure beauty, we descend to the village of Bruson and continue to Cabane de Louvie, set in a peaceful, wild landscape.
Today, you cross the Pra Fleuri pass at 2965 meters. Along the way, you may spot ibex roaming the high mountain trails, offering magical moments in the heart of nature.
Your hike takes you along the shores of the Grande Dixence reservoir towards Cabane des Dix, and then over the Riedmatten pass. You will finish the day in the charming village of Arolla and its neighbor, Les Haudères, nestled in a spectacular alpine valley.
Cross the Cotter alpine meadows to reach the Torrent pass, followed by a descent into the Moiry valley before climbing up to the Sorrebois pass. From here, enjoy a fantastic view of the prestigious 4000-meter peaks: Dent Blanche, Zinalrothorn, and Weisshorn.
Today, you cross the Val d'Anniviers via the Forclettaz pass, at the foot of the Bishorn, often called the "4000-meter peak for ladies." You will reach the village of Gruben, marking your entry into the German-speaking part of Switzerland.
From the Augsbordpass (2894 m), enjoy a panoramic view of the Oberland, the Valais, and the majestic white peaks of the Monte Rosa range. In the distance, Zermatt and the iconic Matterhorn come into view, signaling the end of your journey.
The final day is spent at the foot of the majestic Matterhorn. A beautiful hike takes you to the base of the Hornli Ridge, with an impressive view of the 4000-meter peaks of the Monte Rosa range. For those who wish, this is also the perfect day to attempt the ascent of the Breithorn (4164 m) and experience the joys of high-altitude mountaineering.
